Born May 17, 1917 in Painesville, he was the son of Benjamin Franklin and Luella Mary (Sage) Mayhew. He had lived in Bradenton for the last 23 years.
He had worked from 1920 to 1957 at Mayhew Elevator Co., which his family owned and operated in Ravenna. He retired from Rockwell International after 15 years as a test technician.
Mr. Mayhew graduated from Ravenna High School and attended Kent State University for two years. He was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie (Owen), whom he married May 16, 1943; son, John of Chino, Calif.; daughters, Mary Lou Johnson of Townsend, Tenn. and Sarah McDaniel of Brea, Calif.; brother, Ellis of Worthington, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His sister, Marion Kurz, died previously.
Calling hours will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Home, Inc. in Cortland, Ohio until funeral services, which begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Sager Memorial Cemetery in Bristolville.
