Born April 4, 1911, in Franklin County, Tenn., he was the son of Richard and Goldie Sunderland. He lived most of his life in Ashtabula and northern Trumbull counties. He moved to Warren in November 1992 from South Carolina, where he had lived for 26 years.
Mr. Sunderland was a steelworker for Republic Steel. He was a member of Old Erie Masonic Lodge No. 3 in Warren and a life member of Hampton Masonic Lodge No. 204 in Florence, S.C. He also was a member of Shrine, Grotto, Order of Eastern Star and Knights Templar.
Survivors include his sons, Jerome of Burghill, Ronald of Andover and Darrell of Newton Falls; daughters, Mrs. Sam (Madeline) Griffith of Southington and Raye Sunderland of New Castle, Pa.; 14 grandchildren, including Timothy Sunderland of Ravenna; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. His wife, Louise J. (Smith), and a son, Everett, died previously.
Visitation will be held at noon Friday at McFarland Funeral Home, 271 N. Park Ave., Warren, where services will follow at 1 p.m.Old Erie Lodge will hold Masonic services at 11:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Kinsman Cemetery.
