Gean M. Van Swearingen, 74, of Akron, died Monday.
Born Jan. 10, 1924 in Uniontown, Pa., she was the daughter of Martin and Mary Markey. She had lived in Akron since 1980.
Mrs. Van Swearingen, worked at the Summit County Welfare Department until she retired in 1994.
She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary Volunteer Enlisted (WAVES) during World War II, stationed at Treasure Island, Calif. as a payroll officer.
Survivors include her sons, David A. of Akron, Jack Allan of Louisville, Mark E., stationed in Puerto Rico, and James W. of Orlando, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Pearl Fisher of Elmhurst, Ill. Her husband, Arthur Everett, whom she married Feb. 6, 1946, died in 1973.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Adams-Mason Memorial Chapel in Akron. Burial will be in Alliance Cemetery.
