Benjamin August Thomas, 91, died Sunday at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville. Born July 12, 1906 in Cleveland, he was the son of Benjamin F. and Emelia (Laturell) Thomas. He had lived in Paris Township for more than 50 years. He lived in California for 19 years, where he served in the gospel ministry. He returned to Ohio in 1941 and served as pastor of the Lake Milton Community Church. He served in the rescue mission ministry in Warren and had taught Sunday school for six years at the Edinburg Church of God. He had also worked as a carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Helen W. (Parthemer); and three stepchildren and their families. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Newton Falls Church of God, with the Rev. James Kyle officiating. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery in Paris Township.
