NELSON _ Evelyn J. (Mellin) Sayre, 63, died Monday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness. Born Feb. 4, 1934 in Shalersville, she was the daughter of Willard and Leora Roth Sedivy. She was a graduate of James A. Garfield High School. Mrs. Sayre was a lab technician with Geauga Industries for 12 years until she retired in 1985. She was a member of the Nelson United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Roy, whom she married Sept. 5, 1953; sons, Leonard of Garrettsville and Donald of Akron; daughters, Laurie Taylor of Ellijay, Ga., Julianne Vermillion of Yelm, Wash., Billie Jean Baisden of West Farmington, and Doreen Lallathin of Hiram; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her mother, Leora of Ravenna; stepmother, Leona Mellin of Ravenna; brother, Butch Mellin of Maxburg; sisters, Carol Mast of Ravenna and Bonnie Little of Mansfield; stepbrother, Ron Ramsdell of Nevada; and a stepsister, Sandra Ramsdell of Ravenna. Her father and a grandson, Jeffrey Lallathin, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dwaine Stanley officiating. Burial will be in Harrington Cemetery in Nelson. Memorials may be made to the Nelson United Methodist Church or the American Lung Association.
