Rev. A. Elaine LePoris

The Rev. A. Elaine LePoris, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ravenna since 1995, died Wednesday in Akron following a struggle with lymphoma and pneumonia.

Born in Alliance, she attended Boardman schools and was a graduate of Clarion College and the University of Pittsburgh. She did postgraduate work in biochemistry at the State University of New York at Plattsburg and received her master of divinity from Hamma School of Theology. She was ordained at Weaver Chapel in Springfield on Nov. 13, 1976.

Rev. LePoris was an ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Northeastern Ohio Synod. Prior to coming to Ravenna, she served Lutheran parishes in Lancaster, Arcadia, Springfield, Fairlawn, Casstown, Massillon, Akron and Enon, Ohio.

Survivors include her brother, Frank Rich of Niles; and sisters, Bobbie Wittkugle of Struthers and Joann Laurie of Mentor; nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ravenna with Bishop Marcus J. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown.
