Born Nov. 16, 1937, in Howland, he was the son of Vandell Edward and Mary Garnett Simpson. He was a lifetime resident of Portage County.
Mr. Simpson was a quality control inspector at Johnson Plastics.
He was a volunteer fireman with the Hiram Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, history and spending time with his family. He also liked to collect Native American artifacts.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Dyson), whom he married Dec. 21, 1957; sons, Charles (Nicole) Jr., Clarence (Barbara) and David (Sharon), all of Windham; daughters, Miranda and Rebecca, both of Windham, Melynda (Stan) Zdanczewski of Rootstown and Lucinda (Curtis) Mosier of Troy; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Vandell (Norma) and David (Linda), both of Hiram, and Robert (Virginia) of Windham; and sister, Phyllis (Wally) Ellenberger of Hiram.
Cremation has taken place.
Arrangements were handled by the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.
