Stanley Avery Pleasants, 100, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 21, 1902, in Aurora, he was the son of George and Lillian (Avery) Pleasants.
Mr. Pleasants worked on the original effort to pave S.R. 43 from Streetsboro to Aurora. He was also employed by the B&O Railroad in Pennsylvania where he was a fireman. He returned to Portage County in the early 1930s and worked in local automobile garages. By 1944 he worked at Kent Mold and Machine until his retirement in 1972.
He was a sober member of Alcholics Anonymous since 1958.
He attended Aurora Public Schools. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling.
There are no survivors. His wife, Amelia (Mileski), whom he married in 1936, died in 1958. Sisters, Hazel Hass and Frances Witzman died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Kent. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery.
