Esther Thomas, 97; Ravenna High, KSU graduate

A memorial service will be held Thursday in Columbiana, Ohio, for Esther L. Thomas, 97, of Salem, who died Sunday, March 23, 2003. Born Jan. 22, 1906, in Coschocton, she was the daughter of Harvey E. and Sarah E. (Carr) Merrell. Mrs. Thomas was a graduate of Ravenna High School and Kent State. She had been a high school teacher for many years in Barberton and Cleveland. Survivors include nine nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Her husband, Alexander, whom she married in 1946, died in 1969. She was the last of 13 brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm St., Columbiana. Memorials may be made to the Historical Society of Columbiana, 10 E.
