Marcene Rudd, 72; 1947 Rootstown High graduate

Marcene Likens Rudd, 72, died Tuesday, April 15, in Phoenix, Ariz. Born April 24, 1930, in Hammond, Ind., she was the daughter of Wendell Holmes Perk and Lavon (Johnson) Perkins. She had lived in Indiana and Kentucky, but spent much of her life in the Ravenna area before relocating to Arizona in 1976. She from Rootstown High School in 1947, and won the Miss Portage County beauty pageant that year as the entrant from Ravenna. Mrs. Rudd worked for many years in the registrars office at Kent State University. In her early years in Ohio, she worked at her family-run Ramonas Candies, making hand-dipped homemade candies. Survivors include her sons, Mark of Phoenix, Ariz., and Matt (Nancy) of Plantation, Fla.; daughters, Melodie Zentz of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marla (Robert) Stouffer of Ravenna; and five grandchildren. Her husbands, Earl Likens, who she married in 1948, and Tom Rudd, who she married in 1976, died previously. A sister, Ramona Perkins Stowe, died previously. A memorial service was held April 18 at the Hansen Chapel in Phoenix, Ariz. Memorials may be made to charity or a hospice center.
