Carl J. Flynn, Jr.

Carl J. Flynn, Jr., 80 years of age, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio. Mr. Flynn was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on October 17, 1932, the son of the late Carl J. and Adelaide (Scott) Flynn, Sr.

Formerly of Maple Hts., he was a resident of the Mantua area since 1984. Mr. Flynn had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in Bedford, Ohio, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of dedicated service. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Flynn was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua, the Holy Name Society in Bedford and the Bedford Postal Union. A true family man, Mr. Flynn was a person who knew a little about a lot of many things, enjoyed the outdoors and reading and was a lover of all animals.

On July 20, 1957, he married Elizabeth "Betty" (Onody) Flynn who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children, Thomas Flynn of Bedford, Mary (Jeffrey) Sopko of Troy, Ohio, Ann (Arnold) Hill of Nashua, Montana, Eileen Flynn of Brookpark, Ohio and Carin Flynn and Sue (Jim) Gromley both of Mantua, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 1 brother.

Memorial visitation will be Monday, December 10, 2012 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M., where his memorial service will begin at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. Fr. Michael Garvey officiating. Military Honor's will then follow. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either the Portage County or Geauga County APL. Sorry to hear the passing of Carl he worked at the Bedford Post Office with my husband Harold. You and your family have my deepest sympathy and he will be missed by everyone I will always remember his smile.
