Sarah L. Brunn, 81, of Freedom, died Friday, December 28, 2012, from complications of colon cancer. She was born January 14, 1931, in Ravenna, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Goldie (Warne) Post.
A 1949 graduate of Ravenna High School, she gained her bachelor's degree from Kent State University in 1953. She worked as a home economics teacher at Windham High School from 1953 to 1958. She was an active member of the Portage County Gardeners and volunteered as an election poll worker in Freedom for many years. She also compiled, edited, and published a collection of letters titled "Write Soon! Love, Helen" in 2009.
She was married to Gene W. Brunn on July 28, 1957, and was a devoted wife and mother to their four sons. She was a life-long member of The First Church of God in Ravenna, where she was active as a musician and served in women's and children's ministries. She enjoyed boating, fishing, bird watching, water exercise, needle work, playing the violin and writing poetry.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 55 years, Gene W. Brunn, sons Retired USAF Captain Thomas (Rhonda) of Dayton, Steven (Jane) of Streetsboro, Andrew (Melony) of Garrettsville, Nathan (Ciarra) of Ravenna, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and sister, Shirley Miller of Ravenna.
Calling hours will be from 2-6PM Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel and Monday, December 31, 2012, from 10 AM to time of service at 11 AM at the First Church of God in Ravenna, with Dr. Ed Beck officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Memorials may be made to The First Church of God, 237 New Milford Road, Ravenna, OH 44266.
