James J. Pochedly, 84 years of age, passed away Monday December 24, 2012 at his residence. Born on June 2, 1928 in Freedom Township, Ohio, he was the son of the late Martin R. and Mary C. (Marek) Pochedly. A lifetime area resident, Mr. Pochedly was the founder and owner-operator of Pochedly Farms in Hiram since 1955. As a charter member of the Crestwood Ruritan Club, he was active in all of the club's functions and civic fundraisers. A former member of the Crestwood School Board, he also held memberships in the Ohio Potato Growers Association and the Farm Bureau. Farming was not only his occupation, it was a favorite pastime for Jim, as were the winters he and Mary Jane spent in Florida. On February 4, 1950, he married his devoted wife Mary Jane (Kessler) Pochedly who survives at their home. Also surviving are his loving children James M. (Dee Ann) Pochedly and Mike (Susanne) Pochedly both of Hiram, Jeff (Trish) Pochedly and Jody (Les) Hopkins both of Mantua and Jane (Tom) Gilliland of Twinsburg, his dear sister Charlotte Jewell of Freedom Township, and his 12 cherished grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his siblings Matthew Pochedly, Sr., Carl, Charlie, Bud, Martin and Christine Pochedly. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to join his family on Saturday January 5, 2013 from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua for visitation and to share memories of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Crestwood Ruritan Club Scholarship Fund or the Hiram Fire Department would be appreciated. His obituary and video tribute may be viewed at www.greenfamilyfuneralhome.com.
