M. Alice Foldessy

M. Alice Foldessy 86 of Streetsboro passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Gardens of the Western Reserve in Streetsboro. Alice was the daughter of Barney Roy and Clara A. (Roberts) Stephens.

She was born July 9, 1926 in Akron, Ohio, lived in Brimfield, Ohio for several years and then the family moved to Johnny Cake Hollow in Randolph Township. Alice graduated in 1944 from Randolph High School and also graduated from Kent State University. During World War II, Alice was given the address of a soldier named Russell D. Foldessy. She wrote to him and he wrote to her. They wrote to each other for 3 years. She was a Kent State University student living in Engleman Hall. Later Russell was also a K.S.U. student. Alice said they were not strangers when he came home in December of 1945. Alice and Russell were married June 20, 1948 in the Randolph Methodist Church. They built their home in Streetsboro, Ohio. Alice taught 25 years of second graders in Campus Elementary School in Streetsboro, Ohio. She was chosen for the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation in 1978 - 1979 for outstanding teacher.

Alice and Russell retired in 1986 and traveled around the U.S. and Canada for 15 years. They enjoyed their Winnebago Motor Home and towed their car. They spent their winters in Tavares, Florida. Later they bought a home and after Russell's death on February 19, 2006. Alice has spent her winters in Florida and summers in their home in Streetsboro. They had many friends in Tavares, Florida.

Alice was a member of Hudson Chapter 377, Order of Eastern Star. She was Worthy Matron in 1981 & 1985, Grand Paige in 1983 and Grand Representative of Washington in Ohio 1985 - 1986. Alice received the Gold Cross of Honor for service to the Rainbow Girls. Alice and Russell became members of the Falls Chapter #245, Order of Eastern Star in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. They were dual members of Tavares Chapter 127, in Tavares, Florida. Alice was a 58 year member of O.E.S.

She is survived by 5 children: Karen (Ron) Poole, Gail (Daniel) Danesi, Renee (Dean) Linnell, Glenn (Lori) Foldessy and Gary (Pam) Foldessy, grandchildren, Tammy Coates (Poole), Rhonda (Pat) Johnston, Megan (Josh) DeVelvis , Leslie (Zach) Domka, Michelle (Zach) Favorite, Eddie Burch, Wesley & Kelsey Foldessy, Beth (Aaron) Sipos, Kelly (Kenny) Freund, Dylan Thompson and Amelia Foldessy and great grandchildren, Jordan Funk, Jacob & Taylor Coates, Ian, Reese, & Clare Johnston, Simeon, Adanya & Liora DeVelvis and Stella Anne Sipos.

Alice was an active member of the Streetsboro United Methodist Church. She had a group of ladies that attended church on Sunday and then went out for lunch together. She was a member of the Senior Center in Streetsboro. They enjoyed exercise, chair volleyball, bingo and playing cards. She enjoyed going out to eat with her family. She loved her family unconditionally and was always ready to go to any event that came along.

Calling hours will be from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM Friday, January 11, 2013 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Byron George officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
