LeRoy J. "Lee" Gruver

LeRoy J. "Lee" Gruver , 77, of Edinburg, passed away at Robinson Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. He was born on September 6, 1935 in Greenville, PA to the late, LeRoy R. and Helen (Burnett) Gruver.

Lee formerly lived in Greenville, PA, Youngstown, and Ravenna, before settling in Edinburg. He retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass after 50 years of service, where he was a truck driver. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna and served on various committees including, the Men's Club and Loaves and Fishes; he was a lifetime member of the Ravenna Elks #1076, as well as a member of the Moose, and Eagles Club; Circulators Square Dancing Club; coached the Hot Stove League for many years; Past President of the Umpire League and the Ravenna Athletic Booster Club; and volunteered at the Center of Hope.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events and parties, card playing, hunting, fishing, golf, square dancing, listening to country music, and spending the winter months at their home in North Ft. Myers, Florida.

Memories of LeRoy will be carried on by his loving and caring wife of nearly 60 years, JoAnn (Grinnell) Gruver of Edinburg; his wonderful children, Pamela (Dean) McCloskey of Bellefonte, PA, Brenda (Kent) Marshall of Wadsworth, Steven (Nicki) Gruver of Rootstown, David (Becky) Gruver of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Leonard (Hallie) Gruver of Edinburg; 10 grandchildren, Juli (Evan) Griffith of Raleigh, NC, Jason (Ashlee) Marshall of Wadsworth, Travis McCloskey of Bellefonte, PA, Shari (Paul) Fasick of Mogadore, Joshua Adam McCloskey of Clearfield, PA, Michael Marshall of Wadsworth, Jacob (Trae) Gruver of Chadron, Nebraska, Deanna Gruver of Hampton, VA, Colin Gruver of Edinburg, and Jordan Gruver of Edinburg; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher and Ava Griffith, Isabella, Sophia, and Paul Fasick, Addisyn Gruver, and Jamison Marshall; sisters, RuthAnn (James) Borders, Linda Dixon, Betty Jean (Dawson) Reagle, Mary Ellen (Charles) Hoover, Jane (William) Buckley, and Karen (William) Roots; brothers, Harry (Carolyn) Gruver and William (Sharon) Gruver; and sister-in-law, Joyce Gruver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Gruver, and an infant brother and sister.

He will be always be remembered for his friendly smile and visiting with people. He was very happy with his life and always said that he had a good life. He will be missed very much by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his many friends.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6-9 PM at the Shorts-Spicer -Crislip Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with an Elks service starting at 6, and again on Saturday from 10AM until the 11AM service at the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna, with Rev. Stephen Sparling and Rev. Tom Poremba officiating. Interment will follow at Edinburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Center of Hope, 1034 W. Main St., Ravenna, OH 44266, or a charity of one's choice. Alive in our hearts forever.
