Shirley Ann Stone

"Together Again"

Shirley Ann Stone, age 80, a lifelong resident of Ravenna, died on hospice on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Robinson Memorial Hospital. She was born June 5, 1932 in Ravenna to Earl W. and Maude A. (Smith) Flowers.

Survivors include her beloved children sons, William (Beth), Thomas (Charlotte), David (Cyndi), and Jeffery (Bianca), all of Ravenna sisters, Mary Hall and Nancy (Mark) Jacobs of Ravenna. She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Adam Stone, Megan (Justin) Greene, Brittany (Robert) Rogers, Andrew (Nicole) Stone, Kayla (Joshua) DeWitt, Jeremy Stone, Lindsey Stone, and Jaimie Stone. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of forty years, Earl "Pappy" Stone, brother, Duane Flowers, sister, Arla Jean Bowen, and nephew, Roger Kilbourne.

Shirley graduated from Ravenna High School in 1950 and was employed for the city of Ravenna as the first woman crossing guard, stationed on the corner of Main and King Streets in Ravenna. Her true passion in life was loving and caring for children, whether it be her sons, grandchildren, nieces or nephews.

She had many hobbies, including taking care of her flower beds, collecting dolls, crocheting, going to garage sales, and playing Skip-Bo. You could often find Shirley and her two sisters, Mary and Nancy, cruising slowly around town in her little Ford Focus, laughing and thoroughly enjoying their time together. Shirley was extremely quick-witted and had a sense of humor like no other. She took great joy in making others laugh and her family will miss her constant joking, silly faces, and laughter.

Her greatest accomplishment in life was raising her four sons and seeing their families grow. Shirley was always taking care of people and making sure their needs were met before her own. She will be forever loved and missed but never forgotten. She often sang the chorus of an old gospel song: "In the sweet bye and bye, we shall meet on that beautiful shore." To our mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend: we look forward to you greeting us on that beautiful shore one day, where we can laugh together once again.

Calling hours will be held from 3 - 5 PM Sunday, January 13, 2013 and 1 PM to time of service at 2 PM Monday, January 14, 2013 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
