Mary Veres Iacofano

Mary Veres Iacofano, age 93, passed on January 21, 2013 at Akron General Hospital. She had been living for the past six years in the home of her granddaughter, Kristine Moore, in Rootstown.

Mary was born in Cleveland August 9, 1919 to Rebecca (Hegedus) and Stephen Veres. She was a graduate of the Huron Road Hospital School of Nursing and was employed by University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Division as a Registered Nurse. She served there for 29 years, caring for premature babies.

Mary and Arthur, her husband of 57 years, were longtime residents of South Euclid and St. Margaret Mary Parish. They enjoyed evening walks, classical music, and Arthur's Violin Concerts on Sundays with the Beachwood Symphony Orchestra. Mom enjoyed languages, travel, gardening, opera, cooking and baking. Her homemade pasta family dinners were legendary. Later, she enjoyed working puzzles and watching old movies that she loved from her younger years. Mom also enjoyed being a member of St. Margaret Mary Friendship club.

Mary is survived by her children, Dennis (Judy), Nancy (John) Benedict, and Daniel (Susan) of Berkeley, CA; five grandchildren, Scott, Andrew and John Benedict, Kristine Iacofano Moore and Jeffrey Iacofano; and 12 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Sarah, Ellie, Jack and Lucy Benedict, Jacob, Gregory, Abigail and Katelyn Moore, and Emily, Megan and Brendan Iacofano.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; and sister, Elizabeth Lippay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, 2643 Watrloo Rd., Mogadore, OH 44260. Visitation will precede the Mass from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to St. Joseph Church.
