George Franklin Tarter, III, age 83 of Edinburg, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
He was born December 10, 1929, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, son of the late George Franklin Tarter Jr. and Ethel (Caswell) Tarter. George was a member of the Rootstown United Methodist Church and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Mr. Tarter was the owner and broker of Tarter Realty and a local realtor for over 30 years. In addition he enjoyed the outdoors while operating the family farm. George believed that life was best lived by working hard. He showed his love for his children and grandchildren through his playful gestures and constant smiles. George was devoted to his family and showed his faith by the way he lived his life.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Vera (Marfut) Tarter and their children: Barbara Jean Tarter (Stephen Catt), James Franklin (Laura) Tarter, Kathleen Marie (Kevin) Schwery, Shirley Ann (Mark) Ryan, Ronald Jay (Laura) Tarter, and David Alan (Mary) Tarter, and his brother Kenneth Tarter. George also leaves 22 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren to cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Fennell and his brother Donald Tarter.
Friends will be received Friday, February 8, 2013, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Longtime family friend, Pastor Chuck Naylor will officiate the funeral service at 10:00 AM on Saturday at the Rootstown United Methodist Church, 4065 State Route 44, Rootstown. Interment will follow at Edinburg Cemetery with military honors.
