Barbara L. Guthrie

Barbara L. Guthrie, 61, beloved partner of Barb Miller, from Ravenna Township, died at home, from complications of multiple myeloma, on February 4, 2013 surrounded by loving friends.

Barb is survived at home by her partner of twelve years, their two cats Sherpa and Marlee and two dogs Rocky and Emma, who were both adopted from the N. E. Ohio Sheltie Rescue, and two sisters, Peg and Janet and nieces and nephews. Barb was loved and respected by so many and truly made a difference in many people's lives. The pain of losing a partner and friend is indescribable. Barb in gone but will never be forgotten.

Barb was born on November 27, 1951 in Waukegan, Illinois. She grew up and graduated from high school in Lafayette, Indiana. Barb joined the Air Force in 1970 and served for three and one half years including a year in Biloxi, Mississippi. She attended the University of Western Ontario and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1983. Barb enjoyed a career working in dialysis for over twenty years, spending sixteen of those years at University Hospitals in Cleveland as Chief Dialysis Technician. She ended her career in 2007 to undergo a tandem stem cell transplant.

Barb's hobbies included golf, biking, travelling to North Carolina and Sanibel, Florida, music and walking the dogs. She studied and practiced Jin Shin Jyutsu (balancing body energy) since 1993. Barb volunteered at the Portage County Park District and the Kidney Foundation of Ohio for twenty-five years from 1987-2012. She belonged to the Board of Nephrology Examiners for Nursing and Technology (BONENT), and the National Association of Nephrology Technologist (NANT).

Friends will be received at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A memorial service will not be held.
