Joseph J. Barberine, age 81, son of Peter and Gaetana Barberine, born Nov. 2, 1931 in Ravenna Ohio, passed away July 27, 2013 after a long illness. Joseph served two tours of duty with the United States Army from 1948 to 1952 and 1954 to 1957. He served in Korea, Germany, Japan and the U.S. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Korean Service medal, Bronze Star, the U.N. Service Medal and the Occupation Medal (Japan.) Joseph never married, but lived an interesting life that included a love of history, politics, country music, genealogy and dancing. He traveled for a time with country singer George Jones, was on the board of the Academy of Country Music, published the 'West Coast Music Reporter during 1985 and '86, traveled extensively in the US and overseas.
He is survived by a sister Carmella Barberine Hoskins, of Winder, GA and a brother, Frank Barberine of Perry, Florida, nieces Anna, Judi, Teri, Glenna, Susan and Becky; nephews Mark, Scott, Bill, Bob, Jim and David and many great-nieces and nephews. Burial was held with military honors at The National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.
