Harrison C. "Chuck" Chalker, 83 years of age, passed away Sunday September 8, 2013 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. His passing took place on his birthday which was September 8, 1930 in Shalersville Township, Ohio, when he was born to the late Ira and Florence (Hoskin) Chalker.
A lifetime resident of Portage County, Chuck had resided in the Mantua-Shalersville area, following which he has been a Ravenna resident. He was a 1948 graduate of Shalersville High School.
A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he held membership in the VFW of Ravenna. Chuck will be remembered as a milkman at Chestnut Ridge Dairy in Ravenna for many years. Following that employment, he operated the Lawson's Dairy Store in Mantua, worked at Carlton Trucking, and also was owner-operator of his own trucking operation, hauling mobile homes. Along with his wife they were the owner-operators of Terrace Lakes Campground in Ashland, Ohio working side-by-side with Marilyn and Dave Baranyai in the operation.
While he was an avid fan of all Ohio sports teams, Chuck also enjoyed crossword puzzles, yet his most important times spent were those with his family whose memories of Chuck will forever be cherished.
On February 3, 1951, he married Rosemarie (Janka) Chalker who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Dennis (Leanne) Chalker of Aurora, Colorado, Charleen (Ron) Arbaugh of Mantua, Cherylann (Tom) Gregory of Bradenton, Florida, Roseann (Scott) Brugmann of Mantua and Darleen (Scott) Myers of Garfield Hts., his brother Marland "Bud" (LaVerne) Chalker and sister Shirley Kaser both of Ravenna, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Prohn.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday September 13, 2013, 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua with Rev. Michael Garvey officiating (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH).
Final resting place will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville Township with Full Military Honors provided by United States Army Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193. Friends and Family are invited to return to St. Joseph's Church Parish Hall for a luncheon following the cemetery services.
