Albert G. "Sam" Showalter, age 79, passed away on the morning of September 10, 2013.
Albert was born to Luther and Alvina Showalter on July 11, 1934 in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
A longtime resident of Rootstown, Ohio, Sam was also a devout member of the Springfield Church of the Brethren. After 42 years, he retired from driving for Preston Trucking Co. "Mr. Sam" also retired from Rootstown Local Schools as a bus driver. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army in which he served as a helicopter mechanic. He was also a 40 year member of the Masons via the Deerfield Charity Lodge and the 32nd Canton Consistory.
Sam will be sadly missed by his surviving wife of 25 years, Ruth Ann Showalter and daughter Anna Henry. Surviving also are his six siblings: Luther (Alverta) Showalter, Gary (Patty) Showalter, John (Jane) Showalter, Anna (Glenn) Claar, Barbara (Steve) Enck, and Donna Fisher, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Family will receive friends at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, TODAY, Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. (Masonic Service to begin at 4:45 P.M.) where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 13th with Pastor Andy Hamilton and Pastor Kris Hawk officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown.
