Darwin Dale "Dardy" Haiflich, 93, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 26th, 2013.
He was born November 30, 1919 to Ray and Nettie (Williams) Haiflich in Ashtabula, Ohio. The family moved to Ravenna where Dardy went to school, graduated from Ravenna Township School and worked many different jobs. He married the love of his life, Mary Margaret "Sissy" Gray on September 27, 1941. In April of 1943, Dardy was inducted into the Army where he served as a Clerk General. On the 23rd of October, 1943 he departed for North Africa serving as a medical technician. Dardy also saw time in Italy and France during the WWII European Theater. After returning home he went to work for Second National Bank, now Key Bank, as a cashier. Dardy enjoyed a long career, retiring for health reasons in 1980 as Vice President and Controller. Upon retiring he and Sissy spent their winters in Tampa, Florida and their summers at their beloved cottage on Muzzy Lake. Dardy was an avid fisherman and enjoyed time in Canada with family and friends. Dardy's favorite things in life were his family, fishing and storytelling. Dardy was a long time member of the Ravenna First United Methodist Church and a Life Member of the Ravenna Elks.
Dardy is survived by his son, Danny (Janice) Haiflich. Surviving also are his grandchildren: Kris Haiflich, Kelly (Cliff) Reich, Nikki (John) Prater, Jason Haiflich and his great-grandchildren: Kylie, Cameron, Clayton & Colton Reich and Emma & Bryce "Little D.D." Prater. Also surviving is his sister Barb Brode, Brother-in-Law, Franklin J. Gray and many loving nieces and nephews.
Dardy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sissy, son Jan Haiflich, sister Wilma and brothers: Ron and Dwayne.
Family will receive friends at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Elk's service will begin at 5:30 P.M. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 263 S. Prospect St., Ravenna at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Stephen Sparling officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the United States Army and the Ravenna VFW Post 1055.

He always told his family that he lived through the best of times and the worst of times and he came full circle, the depression & war, etc. so that we should enjoy life. As many who knew him knew he was a great story teller and if you didn't get it the "first time" you'd be sure he would tell you a few more times.
