Robert Leroy Fassnacht September 13, 1922 - October 2, 2013
Robert Leroy (Bob) Fassnacht was born in Akron, Ohio to Rufus and Esther Fassnacht. One of fifteen children, he learned early the value of hard work and using what you had to make what you needed. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served at Moffett Field, CA, working on the blimps used for shore patrol. He loved sharing stories of those years with anyone he could. He worked at General Tire & Rubber Co. in Akron for 42 years as a pipefitter. A group of General Tire employees also served together at Moffett Field. As years went on, they still got together regularly for breakfast as long as they were able. Bob was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Randolph. He had been a member of the Rootstown Lions Club in previous years.
In 1951 Bob married Cecelia Loch, and they settled in Rootstown to raise their two children. After Cecelia died in 1990, Bob lived in Atwater, married Nola Jagiela, and was widowed a second time upon her death. In 2010 declining health necessitated his moving to Randolph to live with his daughter and son-in-law.
He is survived by his son John (Terri) of Rootstown; daughter Judi (Jerry) Wise of Randolph; grandchildren Steven, Jackie (fiancé Doug Wilson), and Kevin (Sarah) Wise, Katie Fassnacht; great-granddaughters Patricia and Makenzie; sisters Dorothy (Bill) Kolm, Margaret Kaminski, Irene Porter, Elaine Hutchins, Norma Jean Zugaro, Pat Bittaker, and Phyllis Waggoner; and brother Jerry. In addition to his wives, Bob was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Bob has donated his body for medical research through NEOMED in Rootstown. A funeral mass will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd., Mogadore, OH 44260 on Saturday, October 5 at 11 AM with Fr. Thomas S. Acker, S.J. presiding . Visitation will take place at the church prior to the funeral service, beginning at 9:30 AM. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
