Marland E. " Bud " Chalker

ROOTSTOWN

Marland E. " Bud " Chalker, 86 years of age, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. Born on January 5, 1927 in Hiram, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ira and Florence ( Hoskin ) Chalker. A longtime Portage County resident, he had attended Shalersville School until he enlisted in the Navy Seabees to serve in World War II until 1946. Prior to serving in the Navy, as well as after, he spent several years' dairy farming in Portage County. Bud was an avid animal lover especially his beloved dogs, and he truly loved the time he spent fishing. In 1989, he retired from R.J.R. Filmco and moved to Eustis, Florida where he worked part-time at Bill Browns Greenhouse retiring from there in 1991. He was a member of Union Congregational Church of Tavares where he served as Deacon and Head Usher. In 2009, he and his wife moved back to Ohio to be close to family. On February 14, 1975, he married LaVerne (Monroe) Chalker who survives at their home. Also surviving are his daughters Linda (Richard) Knapp of Tavares, Florida, Karen (Mitch) Tymcio of Rootstown, step-son Lyle (Tina) Campbell of Tallmadge, step-daughter Leann Campbell of Akron, sister Shirley Kaser of Ravenna, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Prohn and his brother Harrison " Chuck" Chalker on September 8, 2013. Calling hours will be Friday October 18, 2013 from 6:00 p.m.-7:30: p.m. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where his funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193.
