Vernon B. "Benny" Stout, age 89 of Ravenna, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Robinson Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 12, 1924, in Copen, West Virginia, to parents Warder and Vergie (McCoy) Stout. Benny retired from the Chrysler Twinsburg plant in 1986. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Benny was a member of Ravenna Unity Lodge 12 F&AM and the Ravenna Moose Lodge 1234. He enjoyed traveling and fishing. Benny's favorite place to fish was Lake Erie.
He is survived by his children: Larry (Cheryl) Stout of Ravenna, Judy Orum of Ravenna, and Susan (Kerry Jim) Scarlett of Atwater; as well as his 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Benny is also survived by his sisters Lorraine and Jean, brothers Don and Rendall, and his special friend Emma Smith.
Benny was preceded in death by his wife Vivian "Toots" Stout, his parents, and brothers: Lloyd, Auldra "Bull", George, and Roy.
Friends will be received Sunday, October 20, 2013, from 5:00 -- 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday officiated by Pastor Brent Joy. Masonic Services will be held on Sunday at 4:30 PM. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park with military honors provided by the US Navy and VFW Post 1055.
