Harold G. Copen

Harold G. Copen, 90, of Brimfield, passed away December 20, 2013. He was born December 12, 1923 to C.H. and Laura Copen up in Happy Hollow, 3 miles from the county seat, Elizabeth, in Wirt County, West Virginia. He attended Bethel M.E. Methodist Church on top of Elizabeth Hill, just above the horseshoe bend. Harold retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 32 years of service. He was a member of First Freedom Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Lloyd A. Copen; daughter-in-law, Anna Marie Copen; grandson, Joseph A. Copen; great-grandson, Jacob D. Bauerbach.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen and her daughter, Jill (Tony) Lawrence; his sons, Harold J. "Buck" Copen, Denzil E. Copen and Brian W. (Michelle) Copen; his daughters, Doris E. (Jim) Gomez and Vicki (Tony) Spradley; sister, Elsie Flinn; brother, Vernon Copen; daughter-in-law, Victoria Copen; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson. Family and friends may call on Thursday, December 26 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Visitation will be Friday from 10-11 followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Dan Alexoff officiating at First Freedom Baptist Church, 2171 Tallmadge Rd. in Brimfield. Interment at Grandview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Freedom Baptist Church, Kent, OH 44240.   • Eileen, Brian & Vicki....... its' been sooo long. I am so sorry for your loss.

    I will always love Pappy & now I will miss so. & I will always remember "gord head". I would say " go ahead" & he would always say " don't call me a gord head".

     

  • Dad, I will miss you dearly, but I know you are now walking the streets of heaven and is with Lloyd, Marie, grandma and all the rest of the family.  I love you forever and forever dad and until we meet again one day, I will carry you forever in my heart and memories.   • Eileen and family. Sorry for the passing of your loved one. Harold and you were one of the first people I met when I started coming to First Freedom. Harold made me feel welcome and put me at ease. Loved talking to him while watching the bond fires held at the church during different activities. He will be missed. God Bless. He's now in Heaven and in the presence of God's glory.
