Ruth Evelyn Zeller
Ruth Evelyn Zeller 1912 - 2014, passed on peacefully Jan. 4th in the home of her son Robert and daughter-in-law Lorena of Hingham, Ma, where she had lived for 8 1/2 years. Born in Kenosha WI. to William and Jennie Walvoord, she lived to be 101 years old and had lived a full and meaningful life. Orphaned at age 8, she was raised by her older brother Clarence Walvoord and his family, on a farm in Edinburg, Ohio. A graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland Ohio, she married Donald A. Zeller in 1934 and moved to Kent, Ohio in 1939 where she remained until she moved to Ma. to join her son.
Besides working many years in various nursing positions, Ruth volunteered at numerous Red Cross Blood drives and was active in the United Methodist Church of Kent for over 70 years. She delivered Meal on Wheels and was a Hospice volunteer well into her 80's. Rug hooking was a passion, where she dyed her own wool and taught others the craft. In their "retirement" years, she and her husband led bus tours with Bixler Tours of Cleveland for eight years. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her son James, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Her loving survivors include daughter-in-law Pat Zeller, son Robert and his wife Lorena, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Ruth was a gracious, giving woman who cared for others most of her life. Memorial donations may be made to: United Methodist Church of Kent, 1435 E. Main Street, Kent, Ohio 44240
Bob & Lorena,
Sorry to read about Ruth's passing. I remember her as the most gracious LADY that I ever met while at KSU! I know that she will be missed by all her family. Sorry, too, to learn of Jim's death (sympathy to Pat, although I never met her). Think often of our times at Kent, in touch with Bert Bartram at times, but we are growing older and don't keep in touch much.
Again, my sympathy to you all,
Dottie Simmons DeYoung (Robert)
