Margaret Longenberger, 97, of Kent, died Monday, November 4, 2013 at Kent Ridge at Golden Pond surrounded by her family.
She was born September 19, 1916 in Edinburg, to Henry and Laura (Taylor) Robinson, growing up on a farm during the depression. She moved to Kent at age 18, and was a long time resident on Fairchild Avenue. Margaret moved to Kent Ridge at Golden Pond in 2011, and was loved by both the residents and the dedicated and caring staff.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Merrellyn (Fessenden) Bowers of Silver Spring, MD; devoted son-in-law Bruce Bowers, and adored granddaughter, Chelsea Bowers of Washington, D.C. as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Wilmer C. Longenberger; first husband, Merrell Fessenden; sister, Mary Menough; brothers, Glenn and Roy Robinson; parents, Henry and Laura Robinson.
Margaret's career spanned over 45 years and included office work at the A&P and United Methodist Church, as well as Horning Builders Supply. She was recognized and honored for her tireless work with many volunteer organizations such as Meals on Wheels, RSVP program, American Red Cross and the Coleman Foundation, which she did until her early 90's. She was a member of Eastern Star Olive Chapter, and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Kent. Her greatest joy was her family, and her many loving friends. She had a passion for golf and travel, and explored the world during her lifetime. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her ready smile, warm personality and positive attitude.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor Margaret's life will be held at 11:30 am Monday, February 10, 2014 in the Chapel at The United Methodist Church of Kent with Rev. Dr. David Palmer and Rev. Douglas Denton officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to Harbor Light Hospice, 724C Alpha Drive, Highland Heights, OH 44143 or Kent Ridge at Golden Pond, 5241 Sunnybrook Road, Kent. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory are handling the arrangements.
