Bill M. Stephens, 95, of Rootstown, Ohio passed away February 14, 2014. He was born on November 25, 1918 in Columbus, Kansas to Percy and Flo Stephens. Bill married his beloved Adalyn M. Miller on March 7, 1941 shortly before enlisting in the Navy. Bill received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Pittsburgh (Kan.) State University. He was an elementary and junior high principal in Kansas until 1956 when he took a position at Kent State University in the Department of Education. In 1962, Bill was named Director of the Division of Extensions and Special Programs. Under his direction, the regional campuses grew from 1,600 to nearly 7,000 when he retired in 1980 as the Vice Provost and Dean of Regional Campuses.
Bill is survived by his daughter Sylvia Klas (Peter) of Wabasha, MN; son Craig Stephens (Ruth) of Randolph; daughter Pam Valentine of Ravenna; and 7 grandchildren, Paul Klas, Justin and Samantha Stephens, Matthew and Robert Valentine and Christopher and Andrew Stephens; as well as great grandsons, Carter Valentine, Jack Klas and Xavier Brooks.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, son Chuck Stephens, grandson Peter Klas and loving wife Adalyn (Miller) Stephens in 2009.
