Ernie King, 66, of Deerfield, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 16, 2014.
Ernie was born in Maysville, Ky. on March 5, 1948 to parents Lloyd and Lavona King. Immediately following high school graduation, Ernie started working for AT&T in Cincinnati, Ohio. He worked his way up from "gopher" to lineman to corrosion engineer, subsequently retiring after 33 years of service. Mr. King was a superior athlete in high school and was awarded scholarships for basketball at numerous schools. Ernie enjoyed showing horses for many years and liked hunting, fishing and boating. He loved basketball and enjoyed coaching his granddaughter. Ernie was a member of the Mahoning Valley Retread Motorcycle Club where he was affectionately known as "Elio Man". He loved motorcycles and was preparing to purchase a new, state of the art motorcycle that was enclosed and air conditioned. He was a true Renaissance man but most of all he loved his wife, his son, his grandchildren and his friends.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 46 years, Joyce King ~ "Today, Tomorrow & Always". Surviving also is his son Jay (Karen) King of Lake Milton, Ohio, his grandson Tyler James King and his "Special Granddaughter" Sahra Elizabeth King. He also leaves his step-son Johnny Kerr and his siblings: Tony (Laura) King, Mike Toy, Steve (Arleen) King, Lloyd (Jill) King, Anita Eastman, Dennis King and Dallas (Debbie) King. Ernie will be sadly missed by his special dogs: Bettye, Spikey, Jakey and Ginger and thousands of friends.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother Jerry Dean King and his step-daughter Jane Ann Kerr-Bush.
Friends will be received at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. where funeral services, officiated by Pastor David Ballert will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at 11:00 A.M.
