Peter Harjung, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 surrounded by his family at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio.
He was born August 29, 1930 in Cjonoplia, Yugoslavia to Johann Harjung and Anna (Krahl) Harjung. He married the love of his life, Joanne (Andexler) Harjung and they celebrated 62 years of a loving marriage. Their circle of love consisted of 5 children who will dearly miss him.
Peter is survived by his wife Joanne and his children: Joanne Simms of Akron, Peter (Patti) Harjung of Brimfield, John (Aja Semoan) Harjung of St. Petersburg, FL, George (Lynn) Harjung of Tallmadge and Kristine (Joel) Hayden of Kent. His joys were his 9 grandchildren: Jamie (Jamie) Simms, Stephanie (Mike) Schmidt, Nathan Harjung, Josh Hayden, Peter F. Harjung, Alex Hayden and Jadyn, Ryker & Aryson Harjung. He also leaves 4 great-grandchildren: Coeli, Rylen & Miles Simms and Anabelle Schmidt and several nieces and nephews. His family meant the world to him. Peter was a loving and devoted husband and father.
Peter led an amazing life and endured many hardships from results of World War II and being held in a communist concentration camp, escaping and rescuing his mother. He came on a ship to the United States to start a new life. He was very proud of his American citizenship and celebrated that day every year. Peter retired from Evenflo and Vale Edge Sparkle Market after 42 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus. Peter was always a kind and courteous gentleman and always had a smile on his face and a story to share.
Friends will be received on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Reverend William Kraynak, will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St., Ravenna. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
