Ben W. Detweiler

Ben W. Detweiler, 88 years young, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014. He was reunited with his wife, Constance J. (McClelland) who preceded him in death, on July 22, 2011. He was born January 27, 1926, in Middlefield, Oh., the son of the late Wallace "Wollie" and Clara (Byler) Detweiler.

Mr. Detweiler worked for Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg, Ohio, retiring in 1989 after thirty years as a member of the United Auto Workers. He grew strawberries on his five acre farm in Atwater, Ohio where he resided from 1975 until 2003. He later resided in Randolph, Ohio for ten years until the fall of 2012 when he became a resident of Altercare of Louisville until his passing. He is best remembered for his love for his family, friends, the outdoors, watching wrestling twice a week with his son Benjamin, cheating at checkers, making funny faces and his love of life.

He was a beloved father to sons: Benjamin (Maria) Detweiler of New Baltimore, Ohio and Timothy (Darlene) Detweiler of Naples, Fl. He was a cherished grandfather to Kaleigh Shriver, Andrew and Melody Monroe, Samantha Lashley, Brandon and Dylan Detweiler, Devon Jacquelynn, and Rebecca Snitchler. He also leaves sisters: Sarah Williams of West Middlesex, Pa., Clara Schlabach of Smicksburg, Pa., Martha "Mattie" Miller of Paraguay, Wollie of Atlantic, Pa., and brother John of Marion, Ky., to cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Constance, whom he married on June 6, 1964 and enjoyed 47 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his brother: Jacob. Sisters: Barbara Byler, Katie Coblentz, Susan Mercer and Mary Miller.

Calling hours will be held, Tuesday, April 8, 2014, from 6 - 9 pm, at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, Ohio, and from noon, Wednesday, April 9, 2014, until the 1:00 pm service officiated by Pastor David Kidd from the True North Assemblies of God.

Burial will be at Homeland Cemetery in Randolph.
