John Thomas Miner, 86 years of age of Mantua, passed away Friday April 11, 2014 in Aurora, Ohio. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 1, 1927, he was the son of the late John G. and Elsie (Poots) Miner.
He attended The Ohio State University and later found his passion in farming. A longtime Mantua area resident, he and his wife, Opal, owned and operated Miner Farms for 43 years before retiring. A veteran of World War II, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Mr. Miner enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, going to the casino's, traveling, and his Saturday breakfast with fellow vets.
On July 19, 1952, he married Opal (Gless) Miner who survives at their home. Also surviving are his children Steven (Betty) Miner, Donald (Donna) Miner and Barbara (Donald) Bryant all of Mantua, Diane Carmen of Garrettsville and John Robert (Carol) Miner of Warrington, Pennsylvania, brother Robert (Genevieve) Miner of Mantua, sister Janet Scott of Richmond, Virginia, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Wanda Pender.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be Wednesday April 16, 2014 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., where his memorial service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Military Honors will be provided by The United States Air Force Honor Guard Team, assisted by members of Mantua American Legion Post No. 193.
