Karen Lee Russell, 74 years of age, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio following a 25 year hard fought battle due to Parkinson's disease. Karen was born in Ravenna, Ohio on January 21, 1940, the daughter of the late Herman and Janet (Ramage ) Abram. A homemaker, she was a lifetime area resident, and a graduate of Crestwood School System. Karen was employed for seven years as a bookkeeper at Sherwin-Williams Company in Cleveland, having the experience of riding the train each day from Garrettsville to the Terminal Tower in downtown Cleveland, and returning home the same day. Karen had many enjoyments in life including biking, sewing, being a " Super Cook ", while the times spent with her children and grandchildren will forever be those that she, and they cherished the most. She also gave to her community as a very active member of the Garrettsville-Freedom-Nelson Fire Department Woman's Auxiliary. On May 21, 1960, she married her devoted husband Robert A. "Bob" Russell who survives at their home. Also surviving are her beloved children Scott Russell and Mark (Heidi) Russell both of Garrettsville, her dear brother Dae (Janice) Abram of Naples, Florida, and her loving grandchildren Tucker and Emma Urban and Sam and Isaac Russell. No calling hours. Cremation has taken place. A casual gathering and memorial luncheon for all family and friends will be held on Saturday April 26, 2014 from 12:00 noon-2:00 p.m. at the Garrettsville-Freedom-Nelson Fire department on Elm Street in Garrettsville. The Family Requests NO FLOWERS PLEASE. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Parkinson's at Cleveland Clinic, Robinson Visiting Nurse & Hospice, or to the Garrettsville-Freedom-Nelson Fire Department. Bob, Scott, Mark and Heidi would like to extend their special appreciation to all of the family and friends for their prayers and support during these difficult times, and for the many years of Karen's illness. They also want to say a special thank you to the Robinson Memorial Hospital Hospice & Visiting Nurse who came to their home and provided loving and professional care, as well as Dr. Mineo, Dr. Fantelli and Dr. Deiter of Robinson Memorial Hospital, and Dr. Anwar and Junera Scott both of the Cleveland Clinic, for their care and support for Karen, and her family.
