Dick "Papa" Cugini

Dick Cugini

Dick's journey began September 24, 1937 and he passed peacefully on May 21, 2014. He was born in Friedens, Pennsylvania to Lawrence and Ellen Cugini.

Dick loved to hunt, bowl, and golf, and enjoyed watching his grandsons play basketball and granddaughter perform on stage. He was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan and always cheered on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dick graduated from Somerset High School in 1955 and was offered a full ride in football, but chose to head into the workforce instead. He was a loyal employee for Rotek, Inc. for 32 years. Being the hard worker he was, he never missed a day's work, even walking all the way to his job in the 1970 snowstorm. He retired from Rotek in 1999.

Dick was always a big, jolly jokester, making many-many great friends throughout his life. He loved teasing people and if you were lucky enough to be on the receiving end, it meant he really liked you. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, regardless of the circumstances. There was nothing that gave him greater pride than talking about his grandchildren and all their accomplishments. Dick was a very-very proud Papa, and they loved him dearly.

Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frannie; son, Rick (Lisa) Cugini of Fairlawn; daughter, Carla Jean Cugini of Tallmadge; son-in-law, Brian Smith of Brady Lake; grandsons, Lorenzo Ricardo Cugini and Angelo Michael Cugini of Fairlawn; granddaughters, his princess Madison V. Cugini of Tallmadge, and Carolyn and Marissa Boyd of Fairlawn; and brothers, Marlin Cugini and Roger Cugini. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, "Rooster" and Ellen Cugini; sister, Mary; brother, Jack; and nephews, Billy and Lolly. Just one year ago (May 9, 2013) he lost his first born, Brenda Lee Cugini-Smith. This broke his heart and Dick never recovered. He was also preceded by his faithful dog, PJ, and many great buddies.

Private services have already taken place at the request of Dick and his family. Condolences may be sent to Fran and his children.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Dick's name to Summa Hospice (444 N Main Street, PO Box 2090, Akron, OH 44398).
