Carol K. Thomas, passed away on May 31, 2014 at the age of 96. She was born in Syracuse, N.Y. on July 2, 1917 to Rae W. and B. Louise Keller. She was married to Warren Thomas for 54 years until his death in 1995. They lived in Syracuse, N.Y., Jackson, TN., and Winston-Salem, N.C before moving to Kent, OH in 1994 to be closer to their daughters. Carol had many hobbies including golf, bridge, gardening, reading, knitting, and any fun, social activity. For many years, Carol and Warren took annual beach vacations with their family, and especially enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren. While residing in Kent, Carol volunteered at the Coleman Center and The Clothing Center and was a member of the Kent United Church of Christ. She later joined the Hiram Christian Church. She treasured her many friends. Carol's cheerful, positive attitude touched and enriched all those who spent time with her. She was her grandchildren's biggest fan, always cheering them on through any endeavor. Carol amazed us with her ability to see the silver lining in every situation, even when her hearing and eyesight failed.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by daughters, Susan Grajek and Marcia (Kenneth) Muster; grandchildren, Timothy (Tiffney) Grajek, Emily (Matthew) Askea, Megan (Reid) Swan and great-grandchildren, Emily Simon, Jared Simon, Macy Askea and Ellery Swan. A celebration of Carol's life will be held at the Hiram Christian Church on Sunday, August 17th at 3:00 p.m. Her family would like to thank Arborview at Anna Maria of Aurora, as well as Crossroads Hospice for their kind, compassionate care. Anyone wishing to contribute in Carol's honor may send donations to the Summer Camp Scholarship Fund of Hiram Christian Church, PO Box 937, Hiram, OH 44234. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St, Garrettsville, Ohio 44231.
