Earl Myers Ashenfelter, age 73, of Ravenna, passed away, Thursday, June 12, 2014. He was born December 4, 1940, the son of Earl C. and Mildred T. (Anthony) Ashenfelter.
Earl grew up in Northfield, Ohio. He served in the US Army from 1958 - 1961 in the 101st Airborne Division in Korea and made multiple parachute jumps.
From 1962 to 1980, he worked at US steel and Wire in Cleveland. He lived and worked in the Chicago area at Qualified Mechanical in Hoff man Estates for eight years and at American Community Services Company for sixteen years.
Earl enjoyed fishing and camping with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved his garden and talked to his plants to help them grow. Not a day went by when he wasn't singing a little song, usually "You are My Sunshine". He never knew a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone. He will be missed by so many.
Survivors include his children: Earlene R. (Thomas) Martin of Mars., Pa., Amber L. Dickson of Ravenna, Earl H. (Cindy Feller) of Freedom Twp. and Adam M. (Lori) of Fairlawn. Grandchildren: April (David Farley) Dickson, Melissa Dickson, Nicholas E. Dickson, Toria Martin, Michael Martin and Zoe Ashenfelter. Great Grandchildren: Tyler Farely, Elijah Farley, Evan Farley, Ethan Farley and Jordan Smith. Also surviving is his sister: Linda A. Gant of Chicago, brother: Timothy J. Ashenfelter of Andover and former wife: Gladys Mikulski Ashenfelter of Kent. He preceded in death by his parents and sister: Nancy A. Powlowski.
Friends will be received from 4 - 6 pm, Wednesday, at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, Ohio.
