George Bernard Bengtson
George Bernard Bengtson, 81, of Windham, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014. He was born February 13, 1933 in Ishpeming, Michigan to Oscar and Esther (Penguilly) Bengtson. George served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Ford Motors at Walton Hills, OH in 1990 after 38 years of service. He was a Windham firefighter for 55 years for the Windham Volunteer Fire District, and served on the Fire Board.
George is survived by his loving wife Annette, whom he married Sept. 22, 1998; daughter, Cathy (Joe) Lynch of Windham; step-children, Laura (Bill) Powell of Rootstown, Jennifer Szakacs, Frances Sigler and Caroline (John) Smith all of Columbus, Frank Szakacs of Reynoldsburg; and grandchildren Jodi & Christy Bosley, Amber Smith, Austin & Logan Sigler, and Tyler Monet; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Catrina and Mia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary in 1990 and his daughter, Debbie in 2005.
Calling hours are 6-8 PM on Monday, July 28, 2014 and 10-11 AM on Tuesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be no graveside services.
