Richard J. " Dick " Bodnar, 83 years of age, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Maplewood Care Centre in Streetsboro, Ohio. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen ( Novy ) Bodnar. A resident of the Mantua area since 1974, Richard had been employed at Scott Tarbell in Bedford Hts. as office manager, following which he was the owner-operator of World Cup Awards in Mantua for several years. Richard honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of The Church of the Holy Angels in Bainbridge. Richard found much pleasure gardening and being outdoors and watching the trees that are the beauty of God's land. On June 6, 1953, he married Dorothy A. (Jacklin) Bodnar who survives at their home. He is also survived by his daughters Sharon Teaford and Sue ( Gary ) Johnson both of Mantua, his sister Betty Hendricks of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Shelley Rose Zigman in 2005. Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where his funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dan Schlegel officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard Team, assisted by Mantua American Legion Post No. 193. Richard will be laid to rest at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th.
