On April 12, 2017 Jean Thomas entered into the fullness of the presence and the joy of the Lord. She was born in Marion, Ohio on July 9,1924 to William C. and Ethel F. Kurfis McCaulley. Her husband, M. Robert Thomas, Sr. and infant son Harry preceded her in death.
Jean made the choice early in life to follow Jesus. Her simple, deep abiding trust in God affected the way she conducted her life. Her faith was witnessed in her interactions with family and friends who were the recipients of her caring generosity, compassion and love. With Jesus as her compass she served others in a way that was humble and strong. She found God was faithful even in moments of adversity. She was a model of constant contentment and perfect peace.
Jean graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1945 with a B.A. in Education. She taught in the Marion Schools from 1945-1949. She married M. Robert Thomas September 26,1947. Her husband's career change from teaching to business brought the family to Mantua in 1951. Her memory is cherished by her children Rob (Joyce) Thomas of Cuyahoga Falls, Tim (Jane) Thomas of Ravenna, Terri Thomas of Ravenna, Tom (Jodie) Thomas of Ravenna, Thea (Tom) Wilson of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. Blessed by her unlimited love, her 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren affectionately referred to her as their Granny Jean. Her darling nieces, nephews and their families also survive her. Precious as well were her cousins' children and grandchildren.
Endearing friendships were formed at The Mantua Garden Club, The League of Women Voters of Northern Portage County, Mantua Rotary Club, First Congregational Church and Portage Community Chapel of Ravenna, Ohio. Each played a vital part of her life.
Family will receive visitors at Portage Community Chapel 6490 St. Rt. 14, Ravenna, Ohio 44266 on Saturday April 22, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 AM. A celebration of her life will begin at 11:00 AM led by Pastor Mark Miller. Memorial gifts may be given to Missions at Portage Community Chapel.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of Altercare Rehab, Brimfield and Harbor Light Hospice.
