Clarence B. Bernie Smith

1944-2017

Clarence B. "Bernie" Smith, 73, of Hartville, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Community Care Center and is now with his Lord and Savior.

Born on March 1, 1944, in Ravenna, to Clarence "Pete" and Doris Kathleen (Mullen) Smith, he lived in Hartville for most of his life.

Clarence was an active and devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He attended Southeast High School and was employed at B & W Tubular Products as a roll grinder and retired in 2006 after 38 years of service. He was a Fourth Degree Member of Knights of Columbus, Council #558 and was also a member of the Marlboro Volunteers. Bernie enjoyed taking part in historical presentations of the War of 1812 as a Tennessee volunteer and fur trapper, making knives, woodworking, playing golf, pool, and cards.

Survivors include his wife, Joan F. (Pouliot) Smith, whom he married on March 25, 1972; four children, Clarence "Mike" (Juli) Smith of Streetsboro, Steven Allen (Shannon) Smith of Rootstown, Heather Joan (Glenn) Cramer of Atwater and Joshua Daniel Smith of Lancaster; five grandchildren: Michael (Chelsea), Cory, Jackson, Sydnee and Calvin; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his infant son, Gabriel Leo Smith; his parents; sister, Addie Marie "Susie"; three brothers, Richard M., Ronald E. and Gerald E.

A K of C service will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 14, 2017 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Matthew J. Mankowski, of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, as celebrant. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
