William E. "Bill" Riney died on June 3rd after a brief illness. He was 98 years old. Bill was born in Newcastle, Pennsylvania in 1918 where he graduated from high school and married his girlfriend Nancy Lee Hall.
He served in WWII as a Sergeant in the US Army was also part of the occupational forces in Japan after the war ended. Upon his return he began a career with The Pennsylvania Railroad starting as a brakeman and eventually becoming a part of management. He was transferred to Akron, Ohio in the mid 1950s. In 1960 he was appointed Superintendent of the Akron Barberton Beltline Railroad.
After retiring Bill and his wife Nancy moved to Clearwater, Florida in the early 1980s where he was active in his church and did volunteer work at the free clinic. Widowed in 1996, Bill remained in Clearwater until his death. Bill is survived by his two sons Don and his wife Denise, and Sam and his wife Shelly. There are two grandsons Todd, Sean and his wife Tammy as well as two great-grandchildren Brandon and Melissa.
