What draws young people to a community to live and work? What keeps our young people in the community? How can homeowners and seniors retain the value of their homes? I would argue in all these incidents a strong vibrant school system is a major factor. When you look around our area, those communities that show the greatest strength and vitality are those that also have a strong school system in place.
In the November general election, the Ravenna School District is asking for a 4.9 mill levy.
The money is divided up to cover very specific areas: 1.9 mills for building maintenance of all buildings (except for the high school, which has its own maintenance funding source); 1-mill school safety; 1-mill technology; 1-mill to restore programing that has had to be cut or lost.
As a homeowner do I want to pay more pro, perty tax? Heavens, no! Do I understand how important a vibrant school system is to the value of my property? Yes. So, very selfishly, I do not want to lose value on my property investment. I need to invest in our schools.
More importantly, I want to see the young people in the Ravenna School District receive the very best education possible. A number of years ago the property owners of our community provided my children a strong education. Do not Ravenna's children of today deserve the same?
Please vote "Yes" for our community, our kids!
