R-C recaps endorsements of issues on Tuesday election ballot

Voters in every commu-

nity in Portage County will be asked to make decisions on issues and candidates when they go to the polls Tuesday.

There are three countywide tax issues on the ballot. The cities of Kent, Ravenna, Aurora and Streetsboro have municipal offices to fill. Every township, village and school board has candidates on the ballot.

Exercising your right to choose your local officials is a privilege and a responsibility. The polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Your vote is important. Let your voice be heard.

The Record-Courier has endorsed the following issues. We urge a "Yes" vote on:

n Issues 1 and 2 : Issue 1 is a 2-mill, five-year levy and Issue 2 is a 0.9-mill, 10-year levy for the Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities. The renewal requests will not increase taxes.

n Issue 3: A 1-mill renewal levy that funds services for Portage County residents through the Mental Health & Recovery Board. It isn't a tax increase.

n Issue 4: A 0.25 percent increase in Kent's municipal income tax rate to fund construction of a new Kent police and safety facility.

n Issue 21: A 4.9-mill continuing combination levy for the Ravenna School District, with 1.9 mills earmarked for maintenance of the middle school and elementary buildings, and the remaining millage allocated for restoring programs that have been cut, technology and school security.

n Issue 22: A combined bond issue and permanent improvement levy totaling 5.06 mills that would pay for the construction of a new high school in Streetsboro and upgrading other schools in the district.

n Issue 23: A 5.5-mill, three-year levy for the Field Local Schools, with 4 mills earmarked for operations and 1.5 mills for permanent improvements.

Please vote no on issue 22.

The school board is already counting their chickens before their hatched.

Lets show them that we the people are in charge NOT the out of control school board.

Their plan is flawed and we will be paying for levies every year to try and clean up the mess.

Mental health services are fully covered and free under obamacare. Why is a levy needed?
