We're still patiently waiting for the pretty green leaves and colorful blooms to "redecorate" downtown Kent, as this winter has certainly worn out its welcome for many of us. At Main Street Kent, we're forging ahead with spring and summer plans, aiming to perk things back up in the community.
For April, we're planning another Clean Up Kent Day, where businesses, community members and organizations will be invited to join us in a heavy-duty spring cleaning. We'll provide buckets, gloves, bags and other supplies to get the job done. Stay tuned as we narrow in on a date to spruce up the downtown.
It's Super Squirrel! Imagine a giant black squirrel superhero cruising around downtown Kent. "Super Saturday" is May 3 and "Super Squirrel" will be at the Hometown Bank Plaza for photo opportunities from noon to 3 p.m. We'll have fun activities and a superhero costume contests for kids, adults and pets, too. Prizes will be awarded in many categories, so be sure to check the Main Street Kent website -- www.mainstreetkent.org -- for details about times and the contest itself.
This new event is being planned around the national event, Free Comic Day. Off the Wagon will be handing out free comic books from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (while supplies last), and many downtown businesses will have super sales, raffles, sidewalk sales and super deals -- just pick up your "Super Power Pass" at the Hometown Bank Plaza from noon to 3 p.m. so you know where to go to get in on all the good deals.
Adopt-A-Spot sites available
We're also planning for the 2014 Adopt-A-Spot program. Sponsors and flower planters are needed for some of the flower beds, so if you're interested in getting involved, give us a call at 330-677-8000 or send an email to email@example.com.
Masterpieces on Main
In June, get ready for the eighth annual Masterpieces on Main Art & Wine Festival.
Main Street Kent is accepting artist applications until May 1, and applications can be downloaded from our website (or call us and we can send you one), contracts for local wineries are coming in steadily, and we're excited for another great event this year. New this year, we will feature our lead sponsor, Label Peelers Beer & Wine Making Supplies, and event-goers will be able to see wine making demonstrations first-hand. We're adding new live music acts and other activities, too, so be sure to mark your calendar to come out and celebrate downtown Kent on Saturday, June 7.
