We are writing as concerned citizens and taxpayers. Our Portage Park District has had its budget cut by 56 percent over the last six years. It is managing 1,300 acres of land and 14 miles of trails with only one full-time executive director and one part-time maintenance employee. Much of the land owned by the Portage County Park District, 835 acres to be exact, can't be opened because the Portage Park District doesn't have the staff to maintain it.
We have public land in all regions of our county and could have a Portage Park system that is better connected and serves more communities in our county. Please join us in voting "Yes" for Issue 10 on May 6. Our parks are our most valuable natural resource -- let's take care of them.
