Portage park levy is an investment

Published: April 16, 2014 4:00 AM

I have volunteered to serve on the Portage Park Levy Advisory Committee because I believe our parks provide great value to everyone in the community. In my role as a volunteer, I am providing advice about how to implement a successful levy campaign in support of the Portage Park District.

It's a privilege to serve with other volunteers who understand how important it is to support our parks, trails and preserves. These wonderful resources add to the overall quality of life that we enjoy, and they are also critical to our economic growth because they attract people to live and work in Portage County.

I think about the levy as an important investment in our community. An annual investment of $17.50 per $100,000 property value provides immeasurable returns for everyone as the Portage Park District works to protect our natural resources and ensure safe and enjoyable experiences in our parks.

Please vote "Yes" on Issue 10 on May 6.

@dadmck...thanks for the info.

The citizens for portage parks website talk in broad generalities. No specific project or costs. What are the plans to hire? What are est. costs? Specifics on the annual cost to operate. Cost to maintain whats in place. What's est. cost to expand hike/bike trails. What's est. cost of new parks/improvement projects? In other words, show us the figures!!!

Don't Be So Vague

If "Hades" freezes over, and the tax/levy passes, give us, the property owners your budget. Where/how is that $1.6 million per year windfall going to be spent every year?

Please be "SPECIFIC"!   Such as:

How much will the Executive Director get in increased wages/benefits.

How many paid employees (cronies) are you going to hire? Cost of Wages/benefits?

Who gets the asphalt/gravel/construction contracts? (cronies or open bids)? How much will be spent on the hike/bike trails? How much $ does 1 mile of asphalt/gravel cost? How much $ for maintanance on the old facilities/construction of new.  $1.6 million per year is a lot of money.

I am sure the levy people are salivating, waiting for the spending spree to start.

I tried to get on the Portage Park Districts County website to get info, but when you click on the site, a Viagra/Cialis page comes up. I don't know why, but I think its an omen that the property owner is about to get screwed. Again!!!

No on I$$UE #10

Why do the rich liberal democrats never put their money with their mouth? Why do they not just keep the minimum needed to support an average lifestyle and give all the rest to government?
