Passage of levy vital for Portage parks

Published:

As president of the Portage County Historical Society, I have had the opportunity to work with the Portage Park District for the past eight years. They are a partner with us in preservation.

Through the tireless work of its director and park board, this county now has a wonderful selection of property and hike and bike trails. However, funds are not available to develop, maintain and staff these treasures for all to enjoy.

It is paramount that the Portage Park District levy be passed on May 6. With the added funds, these properties can receive the attention necessary to preserve them for generations to come. Our park lands are our legacy. Please vote "Yes" on Issue 10.

  • If the levy passes, the County will be saved. Q. Just how much money does the park district want? Q. Just how much money does the park district really need? Q. Why the need for more asphalt/gravel trails? Q. Why put the burden on just property owners? Q. Can property owners apply for tax abatement?
