Tuesday's election, in which citizens passed the 0.5-mill levy for the Portage Park District, was a historic event for our community. For the first time, the park district has its own dedicated source of funding for staff and operations.
We can now take on some much needed maintenance, provide more security and pursue planning for trail connections and park creation in communities around the county. It's a welcome vote of confidence for us and a testament to the work of so many over the years to get us to this point.
Special thanks go to the many donors to our campaign, the partners who helped to spread the word, and our incredible team of talented, dedicated volunteers who have worked for the past two years to inform and advocate for parks and trails.
Now the fun begins! We look forward to engaging the community over the next several months as we embark on strategic planning and developing park master plans for improving and opening our properties to the public. We have lots of ideas, but would like to hear yours, too.
Levy funds won't be received until 2015, so this gives us time to thoughtfully prepare for using those resources most efficiently and effectively.

Together we can create a wonderful asset for Portage County and a natural legacy for the future. Parks Yes!

tiggy...it was just a few years ago that our next president proclaimed that it was our patriotic duty to loudly protest the government. So...I am following her directive and doing my patriotic duty.
Somebody has to speak out against the progressive tyrants.
There comes a time in life when one should stop complaining and actually do something. Move to the Republic of China. Do something, stop whinning about your miserable life here everyday.
I want the republic, not mob democracy.
Calm down and accept the democracy in which you live. There are 87 other counties in this state. PICK ONE!
Oh...REd....they have a plan...but it can't be published. The real plan will anger many more than already angry over the confiscation of money just becasue you were dumb enough to purchase a mortgage in portage county.
From above: It's a welcome vote of confidence for us and a testament to the work of so many over the years to get us to this point.
FOR THE TAX LEVY 12172
AGAINST THE TAX LEVY 10289
Out of 104,184 registered voters, only 12172 voted for the levy.
Hardly a "Vote of Confidence"

Notice that no "Special Thank You" to the 12172 voters that voted for the levy?

Q. How did the Park Leader come to the conclusion that a 0.5 mill levy was the right amount of money to ask for when they don't even have a PLAN?
